Note: I found a complaint against Brunei Police Force by a mysterious identity on the internet. I managed to save snapshot of the complaint. Please contact us at admin@dabaco.com if you want this to be removed. By the way this complain is publicly available and accessible via the weblink after the quote below. Upon our investigation, the identity doesn’t exist and the actual writing has been removed for unknown reason.

GOING TO DINA MIRI?
On a Sunday trip to Miri, I discovered the amount of Bruneians going there on this particular day was ten times larger than the normal amount. This is due to the emergency DINA seminar which was held at East Wood golf and country club resort.
Take a look at how many people have invested in the company by the picture you can see below. I tell you, this is not the usual scene you would see on a Sunday morning.
Took us nearly an hour to finish with the border process and to the Dina Seminar, anyone was there on Sunday too? Let me know.
It seems that our local is still pursuing the easy way to get money and making life easier.
number of view: 453Following the recent events on Pan Phoenix Dina Program, which claimed that it is not an investment company, but rather more like a joint business with the people as its source of investing raw materials, billet, metal and so forth as to make peoples’ lives more easier with the monthly income, but since it stopped due to court trial and misguided interpretation, local investors were furious to get their money back.
One reason stated that the company didn’t pay any taxes, since it is an established company, why it hasn’t been done? Since they have claimed to “FLOURISHED” in the investment of the above mentioned materials that can be used for manufacture. Manufacturing what? Still to this day there has not been any progress that is visible to the naked eye.
Another reason is the delayed court trial. So the payment or “HIBAH” has been postponed. Sources of news from the internet indicate that they are similar to “PONZI SCHEME”, if it is the case, many local would be infuriated.
It’s strange that the head of the company didn’t come to the seminar himself and explained what happen to the company. One individual reported that, he recently had stomach operation that restricted his movement. He was able to interact with the restless crowd with a hand phone connected to the audio amplifier so they could hear his explanation. Which sounded more like a scripted speech instead of honest talking.

In the 90’s the lonely planet guidebook discouraged tourists to stay longer than 2 days in Brunei, or else you would be scratching your head off out of boredom. So out of curiosity, where do Brunei stands now?
The Lonely Planet guidebook now seems to sing praises for Brunei, although in the overview itself, it says ‘the ongoing saga of one sultan and his people is like soap opera in itself’. One would wonder how a tourist would obtain such information, unless being fed by a fellow Bruneian?
After Googling up for tourists review for Brunei, the first address belongs to virtualtourist.com. It started off quite well, until you get to the ‘warning and danger’ part. Ranging from the predictable taxi unavailability issue, to inaccurate road map, to locals giving wrong direction, corruption in the police force, the banned pork and alcohol issue and plenty others – two pages of them! These are a few that is bearable;
1. ‘There are no real road maps in Brunei, and the tourist map are totally inaccurate; I met people who did not find what they were looking for and went short of petrol…..The map of the ministry of tourism, for instance locates the Waisai Wong Kadir waterfalls north of Labi, they are in fact 8km south of Labi ; I could check that, but there are probably other inaccuracies; make sure you have petrol in your car when you go, and drive around before reaching what you wanted to reach.’ (Kokoryko)
2. ‘Don’t expect to get taxi easily here except for at the airport or hotel. If you are going somewhere with a taxi please remember to figure out how u will get back. Stopping a taxi along the road pretty much won’t happen. So u either get taxi number, arrange hotel shuttle service, rent your own car or get the bus route ready before hand.’ (Amiya)
We know Brunei has a lot to offer – the beauty, the scenery, the well mannered Bruneians who lives by the Malay Islamic Monarchy. But after 25 years of independence, some of the matters highlighted by the tourists should not exists.
There is a lot more said about Brunei, but hopefully relevant authorities will look into this. Brunei maybe the gateway to Borneo, but the web is the gateway to the WORLD.

So hats off to Brunei for surviving World War II, where ambuyat was probably a tougher obstacle than the Japanese. But if the sultan invites you to the palace, forget the five swimming pools and 564 chandeliers. If ambuyat is on his menu, don’t go.
